TAMPA — Lynn University’s Kyle Holloway has signed a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball.

An American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Gold Glove All-American as the nation’s top defensive catcher in 2009, Holloway is the second Fighting Knight to be picked up by an American League East team after pitcher Tommy Kahnle was drafted by the New York Yankees in the fifth round of the MLB Amateur Draft.

In 2009, the product of Deerfield Beachwas honored as a Rawlings National Gold Glove All-American while backstopping the Fighting Knights to the program’s first national title. He has slammed 33 doubles and 22 home runs while driving in 114 RBI in his time with the Blue & White and ranks in the top 10 all-time at LU for total fielding chances and fielding percentage.

Holloway was named Second Team All-SSC and First Team Daktronics All-South Region as a sophomore.
